Setting up a blog reader app on your iPhone or iPad

Many schools and classrooms have adopted blogs as a way to replace paper agendas and provide information to parents about what is going on in the classroom and around the school.  This strategy allows our practice to be made public to anyone in the world who has the link.  This comes with obvious risks, but huge potential, as teachers and classrooms, as well as families from all over begin to view blogs in order to share what s going on.  This allows a class or school in one place to borrow ideas and communicate with others.

However, families are extremely busy in our 21st century.  There are practices, performances, and any number of other things that get in the way of us checking in with the blog on a daily basis to see what is going on.  In fact it is quite common for parents to come into a school and complain that there is no communication, but when asked if they have checked the blog recently, they reply "no."  The blog really puts the ball in the court of the families and gives them 24/7, any time, any where access to school info that is on any web-enabled device.

By using a reader app, checking a blog can become completely painless and lightning quick.  It just needs to be set up properly.  For this tutorial, I have chosen the Feedly app because it is free, easy and ubiquitous.

Here is how to set it up:
